Faith Enrichment Program

WARM WELCOME TO ALL

THIS FRIDAY EVENING

FEBRUARY 23rd

7:00 pm Saskatchewan Time (CST)

FAITH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Potter and the Clay

Your Faith Enrichment Team invites all MMICC members to gather this coming Friday evening for an hour of readings, reflections, prayers, songs and warm exchanges.

Our theme is based on the reading in Jeremiah 18:

Like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.”

As we journey together through Lent, let us recall the moment when God created the work of art we have become. Though we may be marked with cracks and perhaps have parts that have been glued back together, we are nonetheless God’s BELOVED,

created by God’s own hands.

The Warm Welcome Coalition and Carmichael Outreach are excited to announce that funding has been approved for a warming centre to be operated by Carmichael Outreach until the end of May. This warming centre will operate from 11pm to 7am every day to provide a safe space for houseless people to find warmth, food, and a cup of coffee.

The project requires donations of food, coffee, and other snacks for approximately 60 people each night. This is a mission opportunity for people of faith in Regina.

The warming centre is expected to open Jan. 22. In the meantime, the City of Regina will have a bus outside of Carmichael to provide warmth to those in need. Food donations are needed immediately.

There is a sign-up website at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4CAAA829A7F4CE9-46992524-warm  Please join others across Regina to provide a warm welcome to your neighbours.

For further information: see the attachment or contact the Warm Welcome Coalition co-chairs, Russell Mitchell-Walker and Madison Massier, warmwelcomeregina@gmail.com

MMICC is participating.  More information to follow.

LICCF presents RUTH in 5 sessions Sundays 6:30-8:00 MST Jan 7 to Feb 4, 2024

Bring along: a translation of the book of Ruth from the Hebrew scriptures;

a notebook for your responses

THE STUDY

The character Ruth is known widely for her spoken line to her mother-in-law Naomi, “Wherever you will go, I will go,” but what is the rest of the story about these biblical widows? How is this narrative in four chapters a teacher and a light for us in today’s world of border-crossers, the often-heard sentiment that “things should stay the way they’ve always been,” and women’s role in society, in the Church? Join us (LICCF) for 5 Sunday evenings to pray with, reflect on, and discuss the book of Ruth with audio commentary by Pádraig Ó Tuama, theologian, and written excerpts from Avivah Gottlieb Zornberg’s chapter on Ruth in her book The Murmuring Deep: Reflections on the Biblical Unconscious.

            REGISTER

Please register at the website LICCF.ca at the “Bible Study” tab to get on the email list for materials. One week or so prior to each zoom gathering, Teresa will send out her study questions and the commentary to prepare for the gathering.

CIRCLES on Zoom, an exercise in listening.

We’ll use a “circle” format in breakout rooms. At the start, someone establishes an order of participant names for each round. Always allow for a “pass” and “return” to the participant if desired. Someone reads the question for that round. Each person responds in order without interruption or cross talk. Quiet is welcome. After sharing on the question, a final round offers people a chance to mention something that touched them, that they wonder about, are grateful for or that they noticed (not a discussion per se).

ZOOM LINK Repeating for 5 Sunday nights https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83332781787

Break open my heart to receive your blessing

Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places,
    where others see nothing.

          R.  Break open my heart to receive your blessing.

Blessed are they who are content with scarcity,
confident that with God there is always more than enough   R.

Blessed are they who dare to be vulnerable, able to listen,
and not need to fix things.  R

Blessed are they who reserve a space for mystery
and wait for the unexpected response.  R

Blessed are they who can shift gears and trust the slow work of God.  R

Blessed are they who desire what God desires for them.  R

Open wide your arms, open wide your heart, and like Christ,
Welcome the wave-flow, the flood, the sap of humanity. (T. De Chardin, Hymn of the Universe)

    A MEDITATIVE VERSE

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
    (Psalm 51:10)

    A POEM

    This is the moment
    we ask for the blessing
    that lives within
    the ancient ashes,
    that makes its home
    inside the soil of
    this sacred earth.

    So let us be marked
    not for sorrow.
    And let us be marked
    not for shame.
    Let us be marked
    not for false humility
    or for thinking
    we are less
    than we are

    but for claiming
    what God can do
    within the dust,
    within the dirt,
    within the stuff
    of which the world
    is made
    and the stars that blaze
    in our bones
    and the galaxies that spiral
    inside the smudge
    we bear.
    - from "Blessing the Dust," by Jan Richardson,
    found in Circle of Grace

    A MEDITATIVE VERSE

Restore to us the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in us a willing spirit.
    (Psalm 51:12 var.)

It has been suggested that we honour our beloved Sr. Patricia with a memorial fund. Donations will go to local Truth and Reconciliation projects with which she was involved.

Since she considered us her parish, the though is that ministry to the Indigenous people of Regina was truly her mission among us and that it would be a special way we could honour her and her memory.

If you would like to contribute to this memorial fund, donations may be made

Notice the new feature, "New on the Bulletin Board and upcoming events," at the top of the MMICC Bulletin Board.  This will help you save time after you have looked over the whole Bulletin Board at the beginning of the month; then each day that you come back to the Bulletin Board, you only have to check to see if there is something new, and not have to go searching the whole Bulletin Board again.  Clicking on any new item at the top of the page will "jump" you to the place where there is more information.

The latest issue of RCWP Canada's online magazine The Review is at:  https://rcwpcanada.altervista.org

If you can't find what you're looking for in the Bulletin Board, try the search engine at the top of this page.

Go to the top of the page quickly by clicking on the red "Top" button to your right.

    Donations to F.R.O.G.
