Opening Song

Spirit of Gentleness (Voices United #375)

R. Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness, blow through the wilderness, calling and free. Spirit, Spirit of restlessness, stir me from placid-ness, wind on the sea

1) You moved on the waters, You called to the deep, then You coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep; and over the eons You called to each thing: “Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.”

2) You swept through the desert, You stung with the sand and goaded Your people with a law and a land; and when they were blinded by their idols and lies, then You spoke through Your prophets to open their eyes.

3) You sang in a stable, You cried from a hill, then You whispered in silence when the whole world was still; and down in the city You called once again, when You blew through Your people on the rush of the wind.

4) You call from tomorrow, You break ancient schemes; from the bondage of sorrow all the captives dream dreams; our women see visions, our men clear their eyes. With bold new decisions Your people arise.

Prayer for Wholeness

V: Spirit of breath and fire, you call us to lives more amazing than any of us can imagine.

R. Open us to receive your gift of imagination.

V: In rush of wind and tongues of fire, you came to those first disciples, teaching them to speak as they had never spoken before.

R. Open us to receive your gift of prophetic voices.

V: In those ancient times, you promised prophecy and vision, dreams and signs, pouring your own self into those who would hear your call.

R. Open us to receive your gift of welcoming those who hear that call.

V: Still today you pour out your Spirit like a rushing river, filling our thirsty souls with living water, teaching us to pray and praise your holy name.

R. Open us to receive your gift of praise and thanksgiving.

P: As we welcome the ever-surprising abundance of spring,

for warm days and cool nights, for sunshine and rain,

for living things, both small and great that fill the world you have created,

allow your gifts to radiate through us so that all we do is for your greater glory.

R. Amen.

2)…Jesus, the Christ, beloved Son of the Mother….Lamb of God/de, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;

Opening Prayer

P: O Holy WomanSpirit,

From you the clouds have their flowing

the air its movement,

the stones their moisture,

the waters spurting forth in streams

and the earth its glorious green verdure.

My God/de reveals herself in all her beauty

in the mirror of creation,

She flames above the fields to signify the beauty of the earth,

the beautiful earthen matter from which we are all made.

She flames on the waters of the world,

suffusing the whole water-fed world,

as life suffuses my body.

She burns in the sun and the moon

to show forth our brightness of intellect

and strength of spirit.

She gleams in the stars to show us

the words we may use for praise.

And I,

A feather on the breath of God,

pray that the Spirit of God may cleanse me from the malice

that drags me down to earth, and win me the friendship of God.

Hildegarde of Bingen

All: Amen. We pray, Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: (Comprehensive Catholic Lectionary)

1st Reading: Acts 2:1-4, 16, 21

V: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.

When the day of Pentecost arrived, the disciples all met in one room. Suddenly they heard what sounded like a violent, rushing wind from heaven; the noise filled the entire house in which they were sitting. Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each one. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as she enabled them.

This is as was spoken through the Prophet Joel:

It will come to pass in the last days, say God, that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all people. Your youth shall see visions; your elders shall dream dreams. I will work wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below. All will know that I am God.” (Joel 2:28-29)

The Word of an Early Christian Chronicler.

R: Thanks be to God.

Psalm Response

Psalm 104 - COME O SPIRIT OF OUR GOD

1996 Tom Kendzia, b.1954 © 1987 NALR

1. Bless our God, O my soul; … O my God how great are you.

The earth is full of your wonders,… and your works unfold before our eyes.

R: Come, O Spirit of our God, and renew the face of the earth, O come,

O Spir-it of our God and renew the face of the earth.

2. If your take away our breath we die, and return to dust. When you send your Spirit here again you create us and you renew the face of the earth R

3. May your glory endure forever; may you be glad in all your works. We will sing to you all our days. We will praise you while we live. R.

2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-13

V: A reading from the First Letter to the Corinthians:

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Source; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

Each of us is given gifts of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given, through Spirit, wisdom to impart. Another, through the same Spirit, is given knowledge to impart. Another is granted faith; another, gifts of healing. To another is given power to work miracles, to another prophetic voice, to another discernment, to another various languages, to another the interpretation of those languages. All these gifts are activated by one and the same Spirit. And the Spirit, as She moves, distributes these gifts to each one individually.

Just as the human body is a unity, though with many parts; so it is in Christ. In one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body – Judean or Gentile, slave or free. We are all given to drink of the one Spirit.

The Word of the Apostle Paul.

R: Thanks be to God.

Gospel - John 20:19-22

P: A Reading from the Good News attributed to John.

Later on that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the authorities, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side.

The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as my Abwoon sent me, I send you.”

Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said.

The Gospel of the Resurrection.

R: Praise to You, Jesus the Christ.

Homily & Reflection

Profession of Faith

P: We pause for a moment in silence and make a personal act of faith: put into words what you believe, in your heart of hearts about God, about Jesus, the Holy Spirit and what it means to be Church. (Pause) And to this we all say: AMEN.

Prayers of the People

P: As our gratitude is greater than we can ever express, so too is our awareness of the broken places in our world. As we pray for those situations that need healing, let us pray also for the gifts we and others need to help those we are able to as we say:

All: Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

V: We pray for the church in all its manifestations, and especially for the leadership. May our inclusive Catholic community continue to be the breath of life in our communities.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for an end to the evil that is war; for a stop to the senseless destruction of land, homes, and people; and that refugees and other displaced people are able to find homes.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for our land, for an end to the wildfires, for rain to assist firefighters and to help bring much-needed moisture to our fields which feed so much of the earth.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for vocations to RCWP, for people to respond to God’s call to serve in a variety of ways as the Spirit empowers them for the needs of the respective communities.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for the healing of those who are ill, whether it be of body, mind, or spirit; for those who have died or will die today; for the medical and family caregivers who provide for them; for those who grieve the loss of their loved ones.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for safety for travelers during this springtime and summertime, especially today for Jerry and Jacquie, who bless us with their music today.

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

We pray for those who have entrusted us to pray for them and for those needs not spoken but hold in the silence of our hearts. Pause…

R. Holy, breathing, burning Spirit, pour out your love among us and through us.

P: We give you thanks, Creator God for all those who help us to see your Spirit present in our universe.  May creation continually be renewed and transformed that all may share in the fruits of the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, God become human, one with us.

R. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

We Offer Our Gifts

P: Blessed are you, Most Holy One: through your goodness we have received the bread and wine we offer you: fruit of the earth and symbol of all the labours and all the suffering of the world. They will be come for us the Bread of Life and the Cup of Blessing.

All: God/de of Life and Love, receive these gifts we offer you /

in praise and thanksgiving / for the good of all your people.

P:   Christ is Risen! His Spirit is upon us!

All: He is Risen Indeed and is still with us!

P: Let us give thanks to God!

All: Thanks and praise to the One who brings life!

V: Gracious God, we raise voices and sing praises for the wonder of an empty tomb, and a Spirit-filled room. We give thanks for the gifts of life that breaks the bonds of death. We sing songs of praise for the world you have given us, for the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies.

V: As green breaks through the brown of winter,

Trees blossom, and earth releases its dormant energy,

we sing songs of hope for new life in the soil of our souls,

for the promise held in every seed that is sown – in earth and in us.

With the angels and saints, and all who share the glory of the Risen Christ, we sing:

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy One, God/de of mystery, God/de of mirth

Heaven and earth are full of Your glory…hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is He Who comes in the name of our God/de,

in the name of our God/de

Hosanna in the Highest, hosanna in the highest.

V: We gather at this table to remember a story told mere days ago

and yet so long ago.

We remember that Jesus gathered with his closest friends

in an Upper Room to share the feast of liberation,

and while sharing the ancient story of freedom,

he called them to remember the promised freedom of God's Kin-dom.

V: God of Life, in the beginning your Spirit hovered over the water,

calling forth life, creating and inspiring.

Send your Spirit upon these gifts, our humble offering,

that they may be for us the body, the blood of Jesus, the Christ.

 P: We hold in sacred memory that at that table Jesus took the bread,

gave thanks for it, blessed it, broke it and passed it among them saying:

All: This is my body, broken by and for the world.

Whenever you eat it remember me.

P:  At the end of the meal he took the cup of wine,

blessed it and passed it among them saying:

All: This is the cup of the New Covenant, sealed in my blood.

Whenever you drink it remember me,

and look toward the fulfilment of God's Kin-dom.

Anamnesis

Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

V: You sent your Spirit upon your disciples and told them

to spread the good news of your abiding love.

Your Spirit is with us too, that we may be your presence in the world.

V: We remember all those who have gone before us in faith:

People like Moses and Miriam, leading their people to freedom;

People like Sarah and Abraham, seeking a new life in a strange land;

People like Mary, Mother of God, first disciple,

and Mary of Magdala, who, along with other women,

proclaimed an empty tomb and life beyond the cross.

V: We remember all those through the ages, including our beloved dead,

who embraced your life, your hope, and moved into a new age.

We trust that in remembering and retelling their stories,

we too can take the leap into New Life.

V: As we eat and drink may we feel the power of your Spirit

pulse in our veins, the fire of hope blaze in our hearts,

and the joy of Pentecost dance in our souls.

P: For it is through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ

all glory and honour are yours, most Holy One, now and forever.

Doxology

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen.

How holy do we hold the name you bear!

Send forth your kin-dom, your rule upon us;

your will be done by all your creatures ev’rywhere!

Abba of Jesus, our God in heaven,

give us this day the bread we need to live.

Do not remember our sins against you;

Abba of Jesus, save us from trial,

and keep your people far from evil ways.

Yours is the kin-dom, the power, the glory, through endless days.

Abba of Jesus…

Communion Meditation

Spirit Blowing Through Creation(#481 Gather)

Spirit blowing through creation, Spirit burning in the skies,
Let the hope of your salvation fill our eyes;
God of splendor, God of glory, You who light the stars above,
All the heavens tell the story Of your love.

As you move upon the waters, As you ride upon the wind,

Move us all, your sons and daughters deep within;

Formed the land and filed the deep, Let your hand renew and waken all who sleep.

Refrain: Spirit renewing the earth,
Renewing the hearts of all people;
Burn in the weary souls, blow through the silent lips,
Come now awake us, Spirit of God.

Love that sends the rivers dancing, Love that waters all that lives,
Love that heals and holds and rouses and forgives;
You are food for all creatures, You are hunger in the soul,
In your hands the broken-hearted are made whole.

All the creatures you have fashioned, All that live and breathe in you,

Find their hope in your compassion, strong and true;

You, O Spirit of salvation, You alone, beneath, above,

Come renew your whole creation in your love.

Refrain: Spirit renewing the earth,
Renewing the hearts of all people;
Burn in the weary souls, blow through the silent lips,
Come now awake us, Spirit of God.

Prayer after Communion

P: God of fire and breath, giver of all gifts, keep alive in us the grace we have received through the sharing of this Eucharist. May the breath of Pentecost be our source of strength and may this meal we have shared bring us closer to you and to all of our relatives in the whole of creation.

All: Amen.
