MMICC Synod Process and Final Report

Continental Stage Synod Process

You're Invited
Over the past year and a half, people across the Archdiocese have gathered together in parishes, Bible studies, and every imaginable group to explore the fundamental Synod question: "how are we walking together as a church community?" In May, many of us gathered for a day of reflection on the Archdiocesan Synod Report. Since then, reports have been compiled in a Western Canada synthesis, in a national synthesis, and finally in October, a text titled "Enlarge the space of your tent: Working Document for the Continental Stage" was released from the Synod office in Rome.

The Archdiocese has 5 delegates participating in the Continental Stage of the Synod, which will meet online during January. This will bring together delegates from each of the dioceses in Canada and the U.S., over 300 dioceses altogether. The delegates are asked to assess the Document for the Continental Stage" and consider whether there are themes, questions, or concerns that should be emphasized in the next stages of the process. In order to do this, we must first listen to you. So, we are holding a Listening Session on January 7, 2023 from 10am to 12:30pm.

We invite you to join this listening session on Jan. 7 to share your insights and perspectives.

 Thank you

Summary

Synodality is undeniably a significant focus in the ecclesiology of Pope Francis. Although difficult to define, this ecclesiological model has enormous potential and yet poses a significant challenge to all in the Church as a constitutive key to understanding ecclesial ministry and governance. As a fresh phase in the reception of the Second Vatican Council, synodality generates a personal and pastoral conversion of mentalities and structures to a new way of proceeding in the Church where pastors and faithful pray, meet, work together, take counsel together, and build up consensus.

This webinar offers possibilities to promote synodality by encouraging and developing participative structures at the level of the particular Church. In particular, and by way of example, the webinar will examine the possibility of refashioning aspects of the presbyteral council in accordance with the ecclesiogenesis that comes from the current synodalisation of the Church.

  • Our last Wednesday of the month ANARC gathering is this Wednesday the 25th: due to a number of circumstances it will have to be on zoom for this month and we hope to have an in-person potluck and sharing circle in February. If you are wanting to join the virtual sharing, please let me know and I'll forward you the link.
  • Regina City Police Service is hosting their annual Round Dance on Friday Feb 10th at the Mamaweyatitan Centre (3355 6th Ave, attached to the Albert Scott School).  4:30 Pipe Ceremony, followed by Feast. 7pm Round Dance.
  • The City of Regina is putting on another "Frost-Festival" from Feb 3rd to 12th.  Among many activities, there will be daily performances at MOSTOS Indigenous Village.  There are different locations throughout the city but from what I learned on the website is that this village will be located at Confederation Park location. There might be other locations where cultural events may be taking place but it's what I know for now.
For more information google "Frost Regina 2023, and it'll give you more detailed information of all the activities, locations and maps....

The 2023 theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, “Do good; seek justice” (Isaiah 1:17), was prepared by the Minnesota Council of Churches. The themes for each day should be familiar to everyone who lives in Canada. The issues facing the churches in the United States affect us because of their proximity to our borders and as they relate to our present situation in Canada.

Although Canadians often speak of building a diverse, inclusive, and just society, we know that racism is deeply embedded in our society and that we have seen great violence against people of colour and against ethnic and religious minorities. As we undertake these Bible Studies, let us bring the honest questions and reflections that come when the light of the gospel illuminates the truth of both our past and our present. As we seek greater unity, may it be in service to the love and justice God has revealed in Jesus.

Something to ponder and be aware of.

Modern slavery and immigration policies

Likely you are all aware of the recent interview America magazine conducted with Pope Francis as reported in the November 28th issue. There have been many commentaries on it in the following weeks, a number of which have been included in The Review.  At a meeting of the International RCWP Bishops Circle in December, we agreed to prepared a letter, addressed primarily to the People of God, in response on his statement regarding the ordination of women.

Our letter will appear across the United States Friday, 6 January 2023, in the New York Times as a paid community announcement.  The letter will be sent to a variety of news media globaly and across Canada, as well as to individual male Catholic bishops.  The letter is available here.
